Location: Spruce Grove, AB

Awarded Two Green Globes

The Border Paving Athletic Centre (BPAC) is a new multi-use facility, owned and operated by the City of Spruce Grove. Located next the TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre and overlooking the Fuhr Sports Park, the BPAC will be a community hub for sport and recreation within the Spruce Grove region.

BPAC will be home to the City’s Recreation Services staff and will include a Community ‘Recreation Hub’ – a support space for community club leaders to organize and operate. These support spaces include meeting rooms, multi-purpose rooms, workstations and storage; all available for booking and usage any time the facility is open. Leasable office space is also provided for club use. The third floor is currently shelled space for expansion or a future tenant.

The Aerials Gymnastics Club will be a long term tenant in the BPAC, running their athletic programs, a playschool, administrative offices and rentable flex space.

The connection of art, sport and recreation is established throughout the facility and highlighted by multiple displays of public art and sports memorabilia.

"This centre was a labour of love for many of those involved and it fills me with a great deal of pride when I see how this facility is meeting the needs of our community... ...It's a wonderful example of a collaborative project between various levels of government and the community to create a space that will benefit so many."  - Stuart Houston, Mayor of Spruce Grove
