Project Description

Location: Red Deer, AB

Central Alberta Cancer Centre forms part of the Alberta Radiation Therapy Corridor in association with existing ones in Edmonton and Calgary. The project is funded both provincially and federally.

The Central Alberta Cancer Centre will bring improved access to cancer care for Central Alberta residents following its completion in 2013 and involves expanding the Cancer Centre at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, tripling the space and adding radiation therapy to its list of services.

When fully operational, the expanded centre in Red Deer will include (general overview only):

  • Initial installation of two linac accelerators (by Varian Medical, LINAC high energy, 120 leaf collimator, Portal Imaging, IMRT, IGRT) with construction of the third vault, and potential for addition of another vault in the future.
  • Outpatient clinics
  • Medical Day Unit with treatment areas for chemotherapy and other treatments and procedures.
  • Radiation Treatment Services with specialized treatment planning.
  • Pharmacy Services, including a satellite pharmacy for cancer medications.
