RPCC is a LEED Silver Correctional Facility project which involved a major addition (new building) in the context of an existing, fully operational facility. The project was developed in conjunction with SPRA Architects to address operational shortcomings of the existing facility and enhance overall basic site security.  The project involved development of a new Administration Building, incorporating a new Principle Entry, Admissions and Discharge, Staff Lockers and Showers, and a new ERT facility.  The project also included development of 144 Remand Cells, 50 Secure Cells, 10 Medium Secure Cells, and 12 Medical Cells, as well as a Health Care Clinic, a new Control Centre for the entire facility, and realignment of the perimeter security fence.

The RPCC redevelopment project also represented an opportunity to take the first and most important step in redefining the image of the facility, and to create a more positive environment for staff.  In developing the new building - which was also the new ‘face’ of the facility - we took advantage of the opportunity to deliver spaces that were efficient, effective, and appropriate, but also spaces that would quietly impact the day-to-day lives of the staff in subtle ways.
